Durum

Durum wheat is also known as “pasta wheat” or “macaroni wheat”. The 2024 pasta blend was grown as a field blend of durum wheat (70%) and kalahari white wheat (30%) – percentages are a rough estimate.

After many discussions with clients over the years, we decided to make a big effort to secure durum seeds that was adapted and tested in our area. Prieska was known for producing top quality durum until the contracts stopped a few years back. It was easier for pasta factories to secure Hard Red wheat because it was so readily available and easier to grow.
