Die Wonderdraai 2023
Winemaker: Lukas van Loggerenberg
Blend: Chenin Blanc (80 %); Colombard (20 %)
Vinification: Grapes were pressed and left to settle overnight before being moved to 4th fill French oak barrels the next day. The wine was fermented naturally in barrels and left on the lees for 9 months. No finings or enzymes were used. Bottled in October 2023.
Tasting notes: This new blend feels like a vibrant summer’s day in the hot Karoo framed with the longing for some sea air. Intense wandering aromas of sea salt and kapokbos that come home to the greenish-yellow freshness of gooseberries, lemon curd and yellow cling peaches. Punchy salinity on the palate is trailed by kumquat and peach flavours with a twist of white pepper.
