Die Tieroog Tannat Rosé 2023

From R185.00

Winemaker: Lukas van Loggerenberg

Bottles: 1,465

Blend: Tannat (100%)

Vinification: Grapes were pressed and left to settle overnight before being moved to 4th fill French oak barrels the next day. The wine was fermented naturally in barrels and left on the lees for 9 months. No finings or enzymes were used. Bottled in October 2023.

Farmer’s notes: Our first tannat rosé started out as a harvest time intervention when our ripening tannat vines were assaulted by swarms of starlings, something we haven’t experienced before. To save the harvest, we picked the grapes earlier to make a rosé. We’ll be better prepared for the birds next season but with the gorgeous resulting wine, the Tieroog is here to stay.

Tasting notes: Cooler evenings for this tannat vineyard planted close by the river, along with the high altitude, limestone soil and continentality makes for a rosé with a lip smacking acidity, gentle saline drive and even subtler savoury finish. Combined with a fruit bouquet of mulberry, litchi and a hint of vanilla, the result is a refreshing and complex rosé experience. Enjoy with a meal or by itself, on the stoep or at the beach house to kick off your lazy summer evening dinner.
